Canola Week registration closes 2:00pmCST Mon 29-Nov
Blackleg workshop – noon CST on Thurs 2-Dec
About the Event
Canola Week is an online conference which combines three important canola industry meetings.
The Canola Industry Meeting, which was started by Dr. Keith Downey at Agriculture Canada fifty-one years ago in 1970, focusses on to sharing the latest updates of what’s happening in the canola industry in Canada. The first of these meetings were small, attracted around a dozen canola breeders and others, but it has grown as the canola industry has grown to be one of the largest canola meetings. In 2021, the Canola Industry Meeting on Day 1 (Tuesday 30-Nov) will focus on canola industry issues and how the crop preformed in one of the most severe droughts in Canadian history.
The Canola Discovery Forum, which is Day 2 of this conference, will focus more deeply into the latest research and understandings of how to improve our ability to harvest and store the canola crop. The Discovery Forum, which started as a research-review meeting by the Canola Council of Canada in 2013, has focussed over the years on setting canola research priorities for the industry in Canada and highlighting innovations that the industry can adopt to improve canola production.
The Canola Innovation Day on the third day of Canola Week will offer concurrent session highlighting research and innovation in molecular biology, breeding, and oil, protein and end-use products in canola. This technical meeting, started in 2003 by Dr. Wilf Keller at the National Research Council, has been essential at keeping the industry abreast of fast- evolving research fields. Expect to be impressed.
On Friday 3-Dec, after the close of the official conference, a half day workshop on Blackleg of Canola is being offered in conjunction with the Canadian Phytopathological Society (CPS). This workshop will dig deep into the pathogen population, cultivar resistance, and disease management. Registration for this workshop is separate from the Canola Week registration process, but a link to the workshop form on the CPS website can be found on the Canola Week registration page.
